Overcoming Powerlessness

In my last blog, I discussed the discouraging fact that most modern humans have little or no Personal Power. In thinking about it at greater length, however, I came to the, for me, obvious conclusion that, in actuality, everyone has a great deal of Personal Power, it is just used in the wrong way.

There is a fair amount of information on the Internet currently regarding the importance of the Law of Attraction, and how it can be used to improve one's life. Much of this material began appearing after the book, The Secret was on the Non-Fiction-Books Best Seller List.

While the book was essentially about the ways we create our own reality, it was up against all the Programming and Indoctrination in our personal Belief Systems that have caused us to accept the idea that we must accept, "what is." That, thinking we create our daily reality, is nothing but, "hogwash."

Shortly after the book had reached the Best Seller list, a business editorial writer I enjoyed reading commented on the book expressing the idea that nobody wants negative things to happen to themselves, and dismissing the whole premise of the book. In a somewhat later article, he stated that he recently had had some fleeting thoughts along the line of wondering what he would do, if his column was discontinued, but dismissed the possibility. Shortly thereafter, his column was discontinued duo to budget issues. At that point, he understood how he had created that reality with his thoughts.

Everyone has a great deal of power over what happens in their lives, unfortunately, it is expressed to our personal detriment. The primary way we do this is with our negative thoughts--thoughts are things. To overcome a sense of powerlessness requires an effort to monitor one's everyday thoughts and to evaluate them. As I have written before, few individuals pay any attention to their thoughts; in order to change one's life, one's thoughts must be made conscious.

Another requirement is to examine one's personal attitude in order to discover what it is we are putting out to the world--make it conscious. Everyone expresses their attitude every waking moment: how we dress and personal grooming; the expression we carry on our face; the words we use; the people we associate with, all are expressions of our attitude toward life and living in the world.

Just as we project out our attitude, we project out the possession or lack of Personal Power. Unfortunately, two of the major types of personalities in the world are the Predators and those who are Prey. Human Predators look for the vulnerable, who are Prey. Having little Personal Power makes one Prey.

A common belief is that other people should accept oneself as they currently are; that one should not have to change oneself in order "to be loved." I have written about imaging the self as a multifaceted jewel, and that we create those facets/aspects throughout our lives. In order to create those facets one must work at it. In order to gain Personal Power, one must work at it.

An attitude of, "I'm just fine as I am," will get you nowhere fast! I like the story about the man who was searching for the, "perfect woman," rejecting the less-than-perfect women he met in his search. Finally, he found what he considered to be, "the perfect woman," unfortunately, she was looking for the "perfect man."

If each of us think of ourselves as, "works in progress" throughout our lives, we will be very likely to continue to add more-and-more interests and aspects. The more accomplished anyone becomes as an individual, they will automatically add to their Personal Power, as well as attractiveness to others.

With those words of encouragement, I end this blog.
