My last blog touched on the topic, "what is real:?
In the philosophical world "what is real" was deduced by determining "first principles." Descartes, considered the father of modern philosophy, used a system of doubting everything he could possibly doubt, until what remained he considered as "purely indubitable truths. "His most famous proposition is I think, therefore I am, or Cogito ergo sum." (Wikipedia)
Many years ago, when I first developed my Systems Theory in trying to understand human behavior, I rephrased this to "I am, therefore I think." In doing so I, thereby, disputed Logic's most basic truth.
The problem with the proposition, "I think, therefore I am," is the assumption that thinking is primary to existence, which is the basic underlying belief. Humans, as all life, exist in physical form, therefore, in order to think, one must exist in a physical form. Thinking is a function of a brain. Experiencing, however, is a function of the whole human system.
Human thinking, in the vast majority of people, is done with one's beliefs, and one's beliefs, as stated before, are conditioned and programmed into us from the beginning of life, subliminally and overtly. What we bring into life, and our trust in our ability to learn from personal experience is overridden.
A major part of our conditioning/programming is that we are only physical beings. Science teaches that we are nothing but physical beings, evolved from an animal; animals also are nothing but physical beings, (something which many modern researchers in Animal Behavior are finding is no more true than that Humans are merely the product of stimulus response training, as Skinner .)
While the Western/ European religions teach that, we have a soul, (a non-physical self) that will suffer/be punished in the afterlife, if we do not conform to whatever teachings they maintain are the only real truth about what is required, or is forbidden to us as humans. "Thou shalt not" is a major aspect of all these religions.
So, back to, "What is real?" Reality is what exists outside of thinking; once most of us begin to think, we begin projecting our beliefs/programming onto reality--what is. Just as, when a tree falls in a forest, it makes a sound, regardless of a human's presence, reality exists outside a human's presence.
However, a human, merely by being present, speaking, or thinking, can change what happens--reality--by the words they use, which are shaped by beliefs as well as emotional state. This, until recently, would have been considered preposterous by any "right thinking," "rational" individual. This was before Masaru Emoto brought us his Messages from Water.
What Mr. Emoto discovered, in doing experiments with water, was that the very words we use will change the crystallizing process when freezing the resultant water present at the time. This is also true of the kinds of music that is played in the presence of water. The effect does not change, no matter what language the words are in. Ugly words and ugly music, as well as polluted and dead water, produce misshapen, distorted crystals. The more loving the words; beautiful the music; pure the water the more spectacular the crystals that form from the resultant water.
Mr. Emoto, a Japanese business man, in his spare time, began to experiment with freezing water of various types, and from various locations, slicing the resultant water crystals very thin, and photographing them. He did 50 samples with each experiment. What he discovered began to consume his life; as a result he turned his business over to someone else and devoted all of his time to his water experiments.
We humans owe a profound debt to this man, for he has established, beyond any doubt, that what we say and the words we use, can change physical matter. Mr. Emoto's work was touched on in the movie, "What the Bleep Does it Mean?" His books regarding the Messages from Water are now available in English, as well as a DVD of the experiments.
Why is this so important? The human body is primarily water; when we are born, the body is over 90% water. Older humans have been found to have had that percentage, in some instances, reduced to under 50%. Is it any wonder the bodies of many older people are stooped and shrunken from their original height and size? What the potential affect negative words we use; thoughts we think; movies we watch, may have on our physical bodies is graphically demonstrated by these experiments.
So, what does this mean in relation to taking responsibility for ourselves? To be continued....
Thus ends today's blog.
