In this blog I am going to begin to discuss our human "powers" in more depth. An important book for me, and one I will be referring to, in this regard was, Psychic discoveries Behind the Iron Curtain, by Sheila Ostrander and Lynn Schroeder, first published in 1970. My paper back copy of this book has a blurb from the Los Angeles Times review: "The most important book about ESP research and the validity of the occult tradition yet to appear."
When "science" was young, its definitions of "occult" were: "a. not apparent on mere inspection but discoverable by experimentation; b. of a nature not understood, as physical qualities; c. dealing with such qualities; experimental: occult science." (dictionary.com) Currently, Western "science" denies the existence of any of these qualities.
Currently, in the West, the preferred definition is: "Of or pertaining to magic, astrology, or any system claiming use or knowledge of secret or supernatural powers or agencies." (dictionary.com) The definition I prefer, and consider most accurate, is "hidden."
As I have variously stated before, we in the West have been heavily programmed and indoctrinated to consider magic, astrology and anything pertaining to the "supernatural" as totally false.
This book appeared on the scene during my Belief-System crises, and played a great part in its disintegration.
In his introduction to this book, Ivan T. Sanderson does his best to keep the book out of the muddy waters of anything doing with "Psychic." The authors of Psychic Discoveries Behind the Iron Curtain, prior to writing it, had, individually, been writing about life in Russia. During the late '60's they had started finding articles about psychic phenomena in Russian Journals and Magazines, which were asking publicly, "What is Man?"
As a result of a fortuitous invitation to a conference taking place in Russia, they were able to explore just what some of the Russian experiments were about first hand. It turned out that this Communist country had become interested in researching the field, as a result of having leaned that the USA was planning to carry out an ESP experiment that was meant to discover if it was possible to do "mental telepathy." The suggested experiment had its impetus in the fact that when submarines are submerged, there is no communication possible with the rest of the world. What gave them the idea, was information that the Russians were involved in such experiments. This was the time of Sputnik and the "space race," you may recall.
What the Russians were up to, it turned out, was some very astounding experiments involving humans and their non-physical abilities. The only restraint put on scientists carrying out these experiments, was that none of it could be considered to have any religious implications. While those of us in the West have been taught to believe that Russia is a "Godless country," the historical facts are very much different.
When the revolution took place, the areas populous was deeply involved, not only in religion, but: anything and everything to do with magic, the use of and knowledge of secret and supernatural powers and agencies; including things beyond the range of ordinary knowledge; as well as mysteries and secrets, disclosed and communicated only to the initiated. After the communist revolution, those newly in power did their best to stamp out all of this activity, that had a history going back no-one-knows-accurately how long, with a very heavy hand.
With this as an introduction, I end this blog.
