Having Your Mind Blown

In today's blog, I want to explore the concept of, "having your mind blown," and what that means. Those of us who lived through the '60's are familiar with, and, occasionally, still use the term, as in: "it blew my mind." This term, in actuality, has to do with having some small part of one's Belief System, "blown up." If the individual was lucky, the mental bomb may actually knock down a trestle underpinning the System.

Unfortunately, these events only blow a small hole in our Belief System; usually, we plaster it over with, "impossible, only our imagination," and we fall back into relying on our System for determining what we experience as, "reality." There are some, however, who have, after one of these experiences, or additional such occurrences, set about trying to find out some kind of explanation for the event(s), if only in an effort to preserve their sense of sanity. Many of those who lived through the '60s, "had their mind's blown" through the use of recreational drugs.

The experiences, for some, resulted in a true shattering of their Belief Systems. These are, I suspect, the "old hippies" we still see around. So, what came after? The, "Me Generation."

In Generation Me, Jean M. Twenge, writes that: "'Generation Me' describes anyone born in the 1970s, 1980s, or 1990s,... These are today's young people, those who take it for granted that the self comes first." Ms. Twenge, defines the "Me" focus as: "it is captured,..in the phrases we so often hear: 'Be yourself,' 'Believe in yourself,' 'You must love yourself before you can love someone else.'" The social programmers turned this into a negative, of course, but this shift did, also, result in a strong focus on, "Taking care of Number One." Unfortunately, this group is just as Programmed and Indoctrinated, if not more so, than their Grandparents were.

Humans, however, are "innately" able to experience events that are, "out of the ordinary." This is a fact the Powers-that-be absolutely do not want you to know, therefore, we have been programmed to believe such experiences are, "impossible," and the result "only of our imaginations." Because our physical body's sensory systems, as well as our non-physical bodies, are able to perceive beyond what is considered "only physical," everyone is capable of having such, "mind blowing" experiences. A major underpinning Belief of Science is that we humans are only able to experience physical reality; (another being that it is possible to know something by reducing everything to it's component physical parts and by studying the parts).

Because of this Programming and Indoctrination, many individuals who might possibly have had their, "mind's blown" by what they have experienced, are/were so shaken by the event/experience begin to wonder if they are, "losing their minds." Such has been our Western Programming and Indoctrination as to what, "reality" is, that this seems to be the only explanation, as such experiences as stated are, "impossible," and/or, "only our imaginations" at work.

The usual alternatives for these individuals, then, are to, 1) tell no one, or (2) tell some trusted someone about the experience, in whole or part, and wait for the reaction. Telling no one, suppressing the experience, only causes it to, "fester" in the Unconscious." Sharing the experience with someone you trust, can result in either some form of validation, or a total rejection of the experience, frequently leaving one worse off than option No. 1.

A limited number of people have their, "minds blown" by their own search for what is "real." This is frequently brought about by early cynicism regarding the Beliefs about Reality one has been exposed to not explaining what has been experienced. For others, it is an inner sense that, there is more to know, which results in a quest for more knowledge.

In actuality, the net result of having one's mind, "completely blown, is to have literally blown up one's Belief System. As I have written previously, the current Western Belief Systems are the, "boxes" which some individuals are now encouraging people to "think outside of." The best way to go abut this is researching and reviewing section-by-section.

There are many actual experiences and discoveries that will either be accepted, resulting in having one's "mind blown," or in outright rejection. Most choose the second option. Once it has been blown entirely results in having to continue on uncharted waters as an explorer, or in denial and a return to, "normality."

Other ways of, "having one's mind blown," I leave for another day.
